HIGHER GROUND

On a slim, sloping piece of property overlooking the Long Island Sound, the homeowners wanted not only more open space but a two-car garage where none had existed before. The unconventional solution was to remove the current staircase to create more room for an open floor plan, moving it to a newly built tower. With such a narrow lot, the only room for the garage was actually in front of the house where a two-story garage addition was added. Additional living space was created on four levels of the house and on one level above the garage. Every request was satisfied in beautiful, but unexpected ways.

BEFORE AND AFTER

A forlorn parking area in front of the house became the site of an impressive new two-car garage. As stylish as the main house, the new garage has living space upstairs.
